Monday #18: Rock The Kindness

Hello, Wednesday and holiday greetings from Tulum, Mexico where the sandmen dream of taking boat rides.

Having only ever missed a couple of posts since the 52 Mondays blog began, I had every intention of having this post on Monday and spent a great deal of time studying the scheduled post feature on WordPress. Today, I have only a few moments of internet and so I checked in to see the miracle of technology which you know, if you were here two days ago, was slightly less than miraculous. I see that this post is still scheduled for Monday, December 24, 2012 but I’m not sure what happened. So, hello all you lovely Wednesday people!

2012 is nearly over and it is now the time of the year when I like to reflect on the past twelve months and begin to think about the New Year and what kinds of wishes, hopes and dreams I have for it. One of the things that I am certain about, however, is that I am naming 2013 my own personal Year of Kindness. In the coming weeks I am going to write more about what that means but, today, I have a really special project I want to share with you to kick it off.

For a few years I have been fascinated by the idea of guerrilla art and how I might participate in something like this. Many guerrilla art projects are political in nature and done anonymously by individuals who are often in an activist position. Because I don’t feel called to action by anything in particular and don’t really want to be anonymous at this point in my creative career, I decided to take a different slant on this and, really, just create an art project that celebrates surprise and gifting.

The project is called This Is Your Rock.

It’s a kindness movement.

It started on December 21, 2012.

So far, I have left behind six rocks.

All I can tell you is that, as quirky as it might seem, it feels really good.

You can read all about it….HERE.

TRY THIS WEEK: Think about what your theme for 2013 might be.

What a great idea! I love rocks and wish I could find one of yours. However, since I’m not anywhere near where you’ve left your rocks I will just have to join your movement and perhaps come up with something to leave or if you don’t mind, perhaps I will do rocks as well. Do you leave some printed info with the rock or just the web address?

I love this idea. Hope the people that find them get in contact with you.
